Our Story

In the beginning….

Two people decide to make one more go of finding the right person. They both spend months testing the online dating thing. Both become somewhat discouraged in finding “the one”. Then… we connect. At first, it’s just another date. We met at the 1882 Grille for an informal date and a couple drinks 2/3/2017. With the apprehension of previous dating it was not love at first site, but there was…..something. Reserved and partially hopeful there was a second and third and so on. It was mentioned up front that marriage was not in the mix but deep inside we were both looking for the right person and not sure that was possible…

In the Middle….

Something miraculous started happening. The walls started coming down, trust started creeping into the picture and eventually a commitment was formed. Both realizing that a connection beyond what they thought was possible was forming. Friends noticed and mentioned this often. Talks about what the future might hold and planning vacations together became more of the norm. Posts on social media by friends wondering when we were going to get married (No pressure). Then one day we spoke about actually doing it…

The proposal…At this point he has the ring, she knows it and its a waiting game. For him the trick will be to get here somewhere without her suspecting. Attempt one fails, can’t get her at the place without her knowing something is up. Attempt 2 fails for the same reason. This has to happen in 2018 and I’ll tell you why in a minute. Attempt 3…..SUCCESS.

Story time…

It was a cold night and I was set to go over to Cameron’s house to drain the camper and winterize it. It was getting late, it was cold and dark out and I decided this would be the perfect opportunity. I took the ring and another small gift and planted them ahead of time in my coat pocket. Shortly after, Heidi gets home and I ask if she wants to go to Nancy’s Burgers for dinner instead of the Mexican food place next to Cameron’s. I tell her its too cold and dark and I’ll take care of it the next day. She agrees ( about time ). I then “seemingly” change my mind and say “Hey, how about the Grain Station. They have the lemon drop drinks you like”. She says yes. (I’m thinking “FINALLY…..YES’). I get her in the car, sweats and all and head to the Grain Station. We get there and the place is packed. She says lets go to Nancy’s Burgers. I said OK because that’s not the reason I brought her here. Then I say, “Lets go look at our locket and make sure its still there”, and she agrees. See, last year she had a locket made that said Charles & Heidi for our first year anniversary and we put it on the love-lock display. I felt the perfect place to pop the question was in front of the place we openly committed our love for each other the first time. She was still not aware of what was going on. In fact it was so cold she almost did not want to walk over to it, but she did. After we found the lock and she turned to head towards the car I pulled the first box out of my pocket, the ring, and went down on the knee. I got her attention and she turned. At that point I knew what I wanted to say, pretty sure I said it because she said “yes”, but neither one of us can actually remember everything that was said. As I stood up, I said I have one more things. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a second locket. Remember when I said it had to happen in 2018… We attached the locket to the other locket we originally put up. It said. “Charles & Heidi – She Said Yes – 2018”
